Double DNF for Vietti and Antonelli at #SanMarinoGP

 In Moto2, News

A race to forget for the Moto2 duo of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team with Celestino Vietti and Niccolò Antonelli forced to retire after crashes. Both on track with the special livery designed by Mad Dog Jones for VR46 Metaverse, they closed their home GP with no points in the standings.

Starting from the pole position and very fast from the first free practice sessions, Celestino, third after the first lap, immediately kept the pace of the leading group. Fighting for the podium, he was the victim of a crash during the sixth lap that forced him into the garage at lap 15th. He remains at 156 points in the overall standings, fourth overall.

Niccolò also crashed during the ninth lap when he was in P19 and was aiming for the points area right in front of the home crowd.

Celestino Vietti

I am really sorry because such a epilogue at my home GP, in front of all our fans and after yesterday’s pole position, the crash was not needed. A real shame, I didn’t start very well, but I was in the slipstream of the group fighting for the podium and it could have been a good opportunity to be able to close the gap in the standings. Let’s not give up and go back at work for Aragon.

Niccolo Antonelli

A difficult race, unfortunately the grip has changed a lot compared to yesterday. I had no confidence in the front and I could not do anything to avoid the crash. I’m sorry, it was my home race. I have to stay focused, work hard and make a step in riding in such hot temperatures.
